No need anymore for the Start Marker or Footswitch reset. Hassle-free, tight.Just an update is case anyone is still following this thread:. the guide track isn't needed then and can be muted/deleted whatever. If I want to capture the MPC's original groove (and believe me, the difference is very small that it might not be noticable), I can record a guide track while they are synced, unsync, record all the tracks from the MP into Pro Tools via the seperate outs, group the recorded tracks and move them so they lock to the guide track. It's hassle-free, tight enough for using the MP as the Midi sequencer and source of most sounds and Pro tools for the vocals and virtual instruments. The way I sync now is via MIDI Beat Clock from Pro Tools through the 003. No need for using a sync signal plugin, no need for a start click, no need for a footswitch, no additional costs. The pros of this sync setup compared to the Sync-Lock are locator information (so the MP jumps to any location I navigate in Pro Tools) and easy setup. But the starting variance is not much higher (up to 25 samples). This sync compromises the groove of the MP just a little bit because it is not 100 % tight like the Sync-Lock clock. I compared this to simply MIDI Beat Clock from the 003 to the MP. One thing very few devices have on board is the possibility to sync to DIN-Sync drum machines like the original 808. This is not a viable solution if you want to use the DAW for recordings and want to be able to navigate locations like "intro", "verse", "chorus", without recording the instrumental from the drum machine first. One bad thing of using sync via the Sync-Lock is there is a need to place a start click sound on every new location you want to start from in your DAW. 20 samples max at 44,100 Hz samples (max 0.45 ms) is not much in a sync scenario. I attribute this variance to the MIDI side of the MPC. there is a variance of the start point of up to 20 samples (at 44.1 KHz) approximately each pass. The Sync-Lock syncs really tight and keeps the groove and swing of the MP very intact. I did some extensive testing with my 5K synced to Pro Tools (Digi 003) comparing the Sync-Lock box's sync to the way standard MIDI clock from the 003 works. The Sync-Lock is one of the tightest possibilties to sync via MIDI Beat Clock between DAWs and MIDI (or also DIN Sync) drum machines. I ordered an Innerclock Systems Sync-Lock from the German distributor last week. I had this MPC 5K-sync-Pro Tools on the agenda for a long time.
